I have been teaching for 7 years and I have never seen such an amazing response to a book. Students are begging to read it over and over again. I loved the ability to make choices and talk about the outcomes. I loved how sometimes Danny's brother egged him on and we could talk about not having control over someone else and only having control over how you respond. I loved that when Danny asked for a snack he didn't get chocolate and we could talk about "getting what we want" versus "making a good choice." I also love the forgiveness from Danny's parents when he has a bad day and the encouragement to make the next day better. This book is ingenious This book is ingenious. The scenarios are all very relatable and happen on a daily basis to all kids. Makes them realize that they have "The Power to Choose" between the right thing to do and the wrong thing to do all the time.The ONLY book that has captivated my students I am a pre-kindergarten teacher, so I have four and five-year-olds. I have checked out dozens and dozens of books on behavior from the library and tried many different techniques and I could not seem to get my students to grasp the concept of how making one choice can lead to another etc. etc. Not only do the kids in my class have so much fun choosing Danny’s choices in the story, but they also love seeing how the story can change depending on what they decide for Danny. They are finally grasping the concept that not only can one bad choice lead to another and have an effect on others, but you can also change a bad morning into a great afternoon or vice versa. My students constantly ask me if we can “hang out with Danny” and I have everyone’s attention when I pull out this book, even the most difficult behavioral students. I wholeheartedly wish there were more books like this! My students are actually involved in the story instead of just listening. Active participators certainly learn more! Five stars all the way!!!Not for us The idea behind this book is really cool. You flip to different pages depending on what the child chooses and it changes the story. However, the consequences were very vindictive and dramatic and there was not emotional support modeled from the parent. If you practice gentle parenting and your goal is to maintain a good relationship with your child, this is not the book for you.
